A cactus is chopped into log size pieces that are scattered around a green tiled 19th century stove. The species Echinopsis pachanoi —known as San Pedro cactus—is native to the Andes Mountains region in South America. Containing the hallucinogenic alkaloid mescaline it has been used for healing and religious divination by local cultures for over 2,000 years.
